About Kate

Hi, I am Kate. I've been doing pottery since 1989.

Kate Bevington has lived in Ithaca for over 35 years.  She currently works at the Clay School in Ithaca, always experimenting with new shapes and glazes, and teaching others how to throw pots on the wheel. Her work has evolved over time from mostly wheel-thrown circular forms, to include more hand-built elements and organic shapes. She uses a variety of surface decoration techniques, often carving geometric patterns or pressing leaves or other textured items onto the surface of the pot.

Kate creates functional ware, including vases, planters, mugs, platters and other dishes for the home. Although groups of her cups, plates or bowls can work together beautifully in sets, each piece has unique variation in color or design, so that no two pieces are exactly alike.
